Hints & Tips - QBi Update

A new release of QBi (QuickBooks 2008/09) is available. Release 8 OR Service Pack 2 is available as a full uninstall/re-install NOW. A patch (something you can install over the top of your existing installation) is due out within the next 2 weeks - not confirmed.

Should you uninstall/re-install R8 OR wait until the "patch" which does not require uninstalling your existing QuickBooks is released? The answer is a question:
Have you not yet upgraded to QBi or you have and are currently experiencing issues such as having problems with processing Long Service Leave payments, ABA files or the Trial Balance is out and there are balances in Uncategorised Income and/or Expenses or multi-currency issues? A YES answer means please contact us ASAP to arrange to have your file repaired and R8 installed.
A NO answer means you may be able to wait for the patch release.
If you are not sure, please contact us to discuss what will best suit YOUR QuickBooks and business requirements.

Below is an except from a communication sent to us by Reckon.
"Information for clients who already have QuickBooks QBi series installed
All clients who have already upgraded to QuickBooks QBi series should install the Service Pack 2 Release to benefit from the enhancements it contains.

Based on your feedback we are in the process of testing an Update Patch version of this release which would not require a full uninstall and reinstall for your clients. It is anticipated that this version will be available in December 2008.

Current Advantage and Subscription clients will be notified by email when this Update Patch release is available and at that time will be able to download it.

Should you wish to install the Service Pack 2 release on any client?s PCs where QuickBooks QBi series is already installed, prior to the Update Patch release, you can do so using the version we are sending you now provided you use the client?s Installation Key Code. You will need to do a full uninstall and reinstall of the software if you take this option.

If a client is using the QuickBooks 2008/09 Multicurrency Release (R7P), you should not rebuild the data file until after installing Service Pack 2 (R8P). Once you have rebuilt the data file in Service Pack 2, check the Trial Balance, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. If they do not match, please refer to Knowledge Browser Article Q12155 for assistance. The product release numbers R7P and R8P can be seen in the product information window, which is accessed by pressing Ctrl and 1 in QuickBooks.

Also please note that a data file that has been opened in QuickBooks Service Pack 2, or in the Multicurrency release, will not be able to be reopened in the earlier QuickBooks 2008/09 releases".
